TSMC and Amkor Anchor $172B Semiconductor Expansion Across Phoenix and Peoria

TSMC is developing a $165 billion gigafab campus in Phoenix, while Amkor Technology constructs a $7-billion packaging and testing facility in Peoria to anchor Arizona's semiconductor growth.

Arizona is rapidly emerging as a primary semiconductor hub in the Western Hemisphere, fueled by over $200 billion in announced investments. Central to this expansion is TSMC’s massive gigafab project in Phoenix, which encompasses 1,100 acres and includes plans for six fabrication facilities, two advanced packaging centers, and a research and development hub. The site’s initial fabrication facility is already operational and producing chips at four-nanometer precision.

In addition to the TSMC campus, Amkor Technology is currently developing a $7-billion advanced packaging and testing facility in Peoria, supported by a supply chain agreement with TSMC. These efforts are further bolstered by Intel’s ongoing expansion in Chandler and the development of two national semiconductor facilities at Arizona State University, both scheduled for completion by 2028. Collectively, more than 35 semiconductor companies have signaled intentions to expand or relocate to the region to integrate into this growing ecosystem.
