Springfield Public Schools aims to finalize a citywide HVAC upgrade initiative to add air conditioning to all school buildings following recent early dismissals due to extreme heat.
The Springfield school district is accelerating its efforts to install air conditioning across its campuses, aiming to eliminate the need for early dismissals during periods of extreme heat. Recent weather events, which forced the district to release students early as temperatures climbed into the high 90s, have underscored the urgency of the HVAC modernization project.
Patrick Roach, the district’s chief financial officer, identified the project as a critical infrastructure priority. The district is working to ensure that upcoming summer sessions and future high-temperature days no longer disrupt the academic calendar due to inadequate building climate control.
