Developers delay a supplemental environmental impact report for the proposed 17-hangar expansion project at Hanscom Field.
The proposed expansion of private jet infrastructure at Hanscom Field in Massachusetts continues to face significant regulatory hurdles and scheduling delays. Developers North Airfield Ventures and Runway Realty Ventures are currently stalled on submitting a required supplemental environmental impact report, which was mandated by state regulators in June 2024 after the initial proposal was deemed inadequate.
The project plans to add 17 aircraft hangars and new fuel storage facilities across portions of Bedford, Concord, Lincoln, and Lexington. Development efforts have encountered complications including concerns over the presence of the endangered midland sedge, which state biologists noted could fail to meet permitting standards. Additionally, the developers are actively working to secure tenants for the future hangar space to ensure the project's financial viability, while state regulators and environmental critics maintain significant pushback regarding potential increases in greenhouse gas emissions and aircraft noise.
