Routt County has been awarded $465,000 through the Colorado Energy Office’s Local IMPACT Accelerator program to enhance transportation safety and planning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Brandon Circle in west Steamboat Springs. The funding supports a dual-pronged approach, starting with the development of a countywide multimodal transportation policy beginning in 2026, followed by immediate safety upgrades—including improved lighting and signage—slated for construction in 2028. This effort is a key component of the county’s "Move U.S. 40 Forward" initiative.
This grant complements an existing $259,000 effort from the Multimodal Transportation and Mitigation Options Fund, bringing total regional investment for transportation planning and early improvements to approximately $724,000. County officials emphasize the necessity of these upgrades to accommodate increasing development, including the $86 million terminal expansion at Yampa Valley Regional Airport, local workforce housing, and rising commuter traffic levels.
