Paths Development is demolishing the former Sawyer Towers in Columbus to make way for a 380-unit apartment complex on the seven-acre site.
Demolition is officially underway at the former Sawyer Towers site at 525 Sawyer Blvd. in Columbus. The two 15-story towers, originally constructed in 1963 as public housing, are being dismantled to clear space for a new residential project led by Paths Development, a subsidiary of Nuveen Global Investments. Nuveen acquired the seven-acre property for $7 million in late 2025.
The redevelopment plan includes the construction of 380 apartment units across eight buildings—one five-story structure and seven three-story buildings. The project is designed to provide affordable housing for residents earning 60% or less of the area median income, supported by Low Income Housing Tax Credits. Following approval of zoning variances by the Board of Zoning Adjustment in October 2025, the development will include 275 parking spaces and amenities such as community gardens, a playground, and a basketball court.
