Axess Family Services plans the $3.5 million Thompson Family Veterans Village, a 10-unit housing development in Akron.
Axess Family Services is moving forward with the Thompson Family Veterans Village, a proposed residential development in Akron designed to house veterans facing or at risk of homelessness. Located on a 7.75-acre site at 1121 Exeter Rd that has remained vacant for nearly 50 years, the project is planned to include 10 individual one-bedroom homes, each spanning 800 square feet. The site is currently owned by the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority and sits near existing support services, including the Valor Home transitional facility and the Akron VA Clinic.
The development carries an estimated cost of $3 million to $3.5 million. Funding is supported by a $250,000 city allocation from the federal HOME Investment Partnerships American Rescue Plan Program, alongside $1.5 million from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and $600,000 from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, with additional contributions from Montrose Auto Group CEO Michael Thompson. Construction is tentatively slated to begin in late summer or early fall 2026, with the initial phase of units expected to be completed within a year.
