Novant Health Regional Medical Center is investing $1 billion in facility expansions, including a new heart and vascular patient tower and an 80,000-square-foot medical office building in Wilmington.
Novant Health Regional Medical Center in Wilmington is undertaking a $1 billion expansion to accommodate North Carolina's growing demand for cardiovascular services. The project includes the development of a new heart and vascular patient tower at the South 17th Street campus, which will consolidate inpatient and surgical care, including catheterization and electrophysiology labs, upon its expected completion in 2031. Additionally, the health system is constructing an 80,000-square-foot medical office building nearby to expand outpatient capacity.
This investment represents the largest capital commitment by Novant Health to a local system, driven by an anticipated intake of 18,000 new patients in the Coastal Region annually. The initiative is part of a broader push to modernize cardiac care infrastructure across the state, alongside efforts by ECU Health and Atrium Health to integrate advanced robotic surgery, regenerative tissue technologies, and expanded residency programs to combat regional healthcare worker shortages.
