Indiana's $500 million READI 2.0 program is driving statewide infrastructure and housing projects, including a 150-home development in Topeka and South Bend's 250-unit Riverfront West project.
Indiana’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) continues to serve as a primary funding vehicle for community development, with $500 million allocated to the second round of grants. While the program targets quality-of-life and workforce goals, the initiative has spurred a variety of local projects ranging from rural infrastructure to large-scale urban revitalization. In LaGrange County, READI 1.0 funds are supporting a 150-home residential project in Topeka, while READI 2.0 has financed the new LaGrange County Innovation Center, a facility featuring childcare and co-working spaces set to open this October.
In urban centers, the program is facilitating larger dense developments, such as the Riverfront West project in South Bend, which received $5.64 million to redevelop a former parking lot into a mixed-income neighborhood featuring 250 apartments. Despite the program's reach, rural communities report that the competitive nature of the grants and matching requirements often favor larger municipalities with greater administrative capacity. As of May 2026, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has distributed approximately $423 million of the initial $500 million READI 1.0 allocation and over $44 million of the READI 2.0 funds.
