By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

The Jersey City Planning Board has granted approval for the initial phase of the Sacred Heart of Jesus redevelopment project in the Greenville neighborhood. Located at 183 Bayview Avenue, the site features a historic campus that has been largely shuttered since 2005. Developer 183 Bayview SPE JCP001 LLC will focus the first phase on restoring the property’s former priory, converting the structure into 14 residences, consisting of 10 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom units. Designed by Weckenmann Architecture, the plan preserves the existing building exterior while repurposing the double-height chapel into a resident amenity space.

Future phases of the broader redevelopment plan include converting the main church into an event space, transforming the active school building into 12 residential units, and constructing a new 96-unit building on the site of a former gymnasium. The initial phase also incorporates site improvements such as new sidewalks, landscaping, and bicycle storage, though a groundbreaking date has not yet been announced.
