The University of South Carolina is building a 300,000-square-foot medical facility in Columbia, now officially named the Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine.
The University of South Carolina has officially renamed its School of Medicine in Columbia to the University of South Carolina Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine. The renaming honors the late Dr. Edward Floyd, a longtime university trustee, and his wife, Kay Floyd, following a $30 million philanthropic commitment from the family. The donation will support medical student scholarships and various endowed faculty positions.
Simultaneously, construction is currently underway on a new 300,000-square-foot-plus medical education and research facility located within Columbia's 16-acre BullStreet district. This project is a key component of the university's developing Health Sciences Campus, designed to support the institution's growing medical program.
