StructureCraft is building North America’s first 4,000-sq-ft asymptotic timber gridshell canopy at the Assembly Studios campus in Doraville, Georgia.
A unique 4,000-sq-ft, saddle-shaped timber canopy, nicknamed "the Pringle," is currently under construction at the 120-acre Assembly Studios film and production campus in Doraville, Georgia. Designed as a permanent outdoor performance space that will initially serve as a soccer World Cup viewing venue, the structure features a doubly curved, 82-ft-span canopy built using an innovative asymptotic timber gridshell system. The project, which utilizes elastically bent wood laths, is slated for completion in early June 2026.
Vancouver-based StructureCraft served as the structural engineer-of-record and timber design-builder, executing a complex rigging process to lift the timber grid into its final shape atop precast concrete plinths. The project team also includes Smith Dalia Architects, general contractor Bailey Construction, and owner’s representative Gibson Co. The site is owned by Gray Media and Assembly Atlanta.
