Chapman Construction/Design completes a high-performance, all-electric renovation of the Mass Audubon Wildlife Care Center at Drumlin Farm in Lincoln.
Chapman Construction/Design has finalized renovations to the Wildlife Care Center at the Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The project modernized a 1950s-era facility into a fully electric, high-performance hub dedicated to animal care and education. The team utilized sustainable "scrappy high performance" techniques, including the installation of triple-glazed windows, ZIP System R-sheathing, and high-efficiency mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Blower door testing confirmed an air tightness of 0.07 CFM/ft² at 75 Pa, exceeding the PHIUS certification threshold.
To promote sustainability and circularity, the project team incorporated salvaged materials, including donated millwork and repurposed office furniture, throughout the facility. Site drainage was also improved through regrading and new gutter systems, while the interior features adjustable-spectrum lighting designed to support the health of the 69 wildlife ambassadors housed on-site.
