Hill AFB Secures $6.5M for F-35 Canopy Maintenance Facility Design

U.S. Representative Blake Moore has secured $6.5 million in appropriations for the planning and design of a new F-35 Canopy Maintenance Facility at Hill Air Force Base.

By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) has successfully secured $6.5 million in federal funding for the planning and design of a specialized F-35 Canopy Maintenance Facility at Hill Air Force Base. The appropriation, included in the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, is intended to expand repair capabilities as the Ogden Air Logistics Complex prepares to transition maintenance work from the manufacturer to the base.

The new facility is necessary to accommodate increasing F-35 fleet acquisitions by the U.S. military and allied nations, shifting the workload from current operations in Buildings 271 and 850. By establishing a dedicated facility on-site, the base aims to maintain aircraft availability, reduce long-term outsourcing costs, and ensure high-tech canopy repairs—essential for the aircraft's stealth and electromagnetic shielding properties—are handled in-house to meet maintenance deadlines.
