Hazelwood Proposes $14M Bond Issue for New Municipal Fire Station Construction

The City of Hazelwood seeks voter approval for a $14 million bond issue to fund the construction of a new fire station.

By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

The City of Hazelwood has advanced a plan to ask voters for a $14 million bond issue in the August primary election to finance a new fire station. The proposed facility is intended to replace the existing station located at 6100 North Lindbergh Boulevard, which was constructed in 1961 and is currently unable to accommodate modern fire equipment.

Interim City Manager David Hudanic stated that the new construction could cost between $14 million and $20 million. While the city council voted 6-2 to place the bond issue on the August 4 ballot, some officials, including Councilwoman Jen Hatton, have expressed concerns regarding the speed of the process and the lack of a finalized design or specific location for the new facility. In October, the city contracted Navigate Building Solutions for $24,200 to conduct a needs assessment for the fire department.
