H-E-B is under contract to acquire a 6-acre site in Houston's East End, fueling speculation regarding a potential new store.

By Colin Percy · May 21, 2026

H-E-B has confirmed it is under contract to purchase a roughly 6-acre site in the East End of Houston. While the San Antonio-based grocer stated it is currently in the due diligence phase, it has not yet publicly committed to a specific development plan for the property.

The site is situated near 2600 Canal St. and currently consists of several parcels owned by an entity affiliated with the Houston developer Concept Neighborhood. The potential acquisition is drawing attention as the neighborhood has long been identified as an area with limited supermarket access.
