Construction has commenced on a new 18,300-square-foot location for the restaurant and live music venue The Rustic at 1718 Jackson Street in downtown Houston. The project is being developed by the government corporation Houston First, which is investing $9.7 million to construct the venue. Once completed, the facility will be operated by FreeRange Concepts under a 10-year lease agreement. The site is scheduled to open in March 2027 as part of a larger initiative to revitalize the area surrounding the George R. Brown Convention Center.
This development serves as an anchor for the planned entertainment district near the convention center. The new space is designed to feature enhanced amenities, including a private dining room capable of hosting 75 guests and improved parking facilities. The broader convention center expansion project, which includes a 700,000-square-foot building and a 100,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza, represents a $1.14 billion investment expected to reach completion by May 2028.
