Fort Worth Approves $606M Phase Two Expansion for Convention Center

Fort Worth is moving forward with a $606 million, second-phase expansion of its convention center that will nearly double capacity by 2030.

By Colin Percy · Apr 16, 2026

A multi-year modernization and expansion of the Fort Worth Convention Center is underway, with a $606 million second phase aimed at reshaping the facility’s role in the city’s events market. Following an initial $95 million first phase that addressed operational upgrades and site access, this expansion will introduce a four-story glass structure anchored at Main and 9th streets, integrating new public plazas and native green space. The completed project is slated for 2030 and will deliver 257,250 square feet of exhibit space and 60,900 square feet of meeting space.

Demolition of the existing arena is scheduled for early 2027 to facilitate the new, flexible floor plans. Designed by Atlanta-based TVS in partnership with Bennett Partners, the facility will feature a "modern West" aesthetic throughout its interiors. The project, which involves team members including AECOMHunt, Byrne Construction, EJ Smith Construction, Broaddus & Associates, and Elements of Architecture, is expected to drive increased activity and development along the southern edge of downtown Fort Worth.
