The FAA is providing $6 million to Salt Lake City International Airport to fund terminal expansions, including a permanent family-friendly security lane.
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded over $6 million to Salt Lake City International Airport to enhance terminal facilities and ease security screening for families. The funding will support the construction of a permanent family-designated security lane at the airport's main second-level checkpoint, with completion expected between late 2027 and early 2028. Additionally, the grant will finance upgrades to the airport's ground-floor screening checkpoint.
According to airport spokesperson Nancy Volmer, the permanent family lanes are intended to streamline the screening process for travelers with strollers and car seats, preventing bottlenecks in general security lines. This project is part of a broader $970 million federal initiative covering airport terminal improvements across 45 states.
