The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is preparing to relocate approximately 500 employees from its longtime headquarters on North First Street to a new Downtown San Jose office, triggering the redevelopment of its 17-acre site. The first phase of this transformation involves a 330-unit affordable apartment complex developed by Eden Housing on a 2.5-acre parcel. Financing for this initial phase will be sourced from tax credits and grants provided by the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

Long-term plans for the remainder of the campus envision a potential total of 1,100 housing units, complemented by additional office and retail space. This initiative reflects the VTA’s broader strategy to leverage its real estate assets for transit-oriented development, similar to its ongoing project in the Berryessa neighborhood, aimed at increasing local transit ridership while expanding the supply of housing.
