Data Center Boom Drives Record 4M Metric Tons of Slag Cement Shipments in 2025

The U.S. recorded a historic high of over 4 million metric tons of slag cement shipments in 2025, driven largely by demand from massive data center campuses.

The U.S. construction industry reached a record-setting milestone in 2025, with slag cement shipments exceeding 4 million metric tons. This growth represents a significant shift toward sustainable, high-performance building materials, with blended cements containing slag seeing an 18% increase in shipments during the same period. Since 2020, the sector has maintained a compound annual growth rate of nearly 6%.

According to the Slag Cement Association, this surge is largely fueled by the rapid expansion of hyperscale data center campuses, where developers prioritize slag cement for its environmental benefits and structural durability. Industry capacity has been further bolstered by the addition of new members to the association, including CalPortland, Silvi Materials, Texas Lehigh Cement, and Sathi USA, helping to meet the rising demand for low-carbon construction materials across the nation.
