Construction Continues on 10,500-Seat Downtown Augusta Arena for ECHL Franchise

Construction is ongoing for the 10,500-seat New Augusta Arena in downtown Augusta, which will serve as the anchor for a new ECHL ice hockey franchise.

By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

The New Augusta Arena project in Augusta is currently on budget and on track for completion ahead of the Augusta Lynx's debut in the fall of 2027. The project, which is being funded by a half-cent sales tax approved by local voters in 2023, will serve as the anchor arena for the team, replacing the downtown James Brown Arena.

Oak View Group is managing the venue, with company leadership emphasizing the site's readiness for the upcoming hockey season. The arena will house the ECHL franchise owned by David Hodges, bringing professional hockey back to the city.
