City of Russell Completes First Drone Light Show Infrastructure at Russell Plaza

The city of Russell hosted its first-ever drone show at Russell Plaza to celebrate Memorial Day and America's 250th anniversary.

By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

The city of Russell recently hosted the Tri-State region’s inaugural drone show at Russell Plaza. Originally scheduled to celebrate Memorial Day, the event was briefly delayed by rain before drawing hundreds of attendees who gathered in surrounding parking lots and public spaces to view the performance, which featured aerial displays of "Russell," "USA," and the American flag.

Diamond Lewis of the Russell tourism board noted that the event was made possible through local tourism tax funding, which also supports ongoing riverfront development initiatives in the area. The gathering served as both a patriotic commemoration of the holiday and a community showcase for surrounding neighborhoods.
