The Brighton Town Board has moved forward with Phase 2 of its town hall renovation project, approving a $4.48 million contract with Zoladz Construction Co. The project, which involves parking lot improvements, accessibility upgrades, and utility-related work on the 56,000-square-foot site along Elmwood Avenue, has faced significant local backlash regarding transparency, planning procedures, and the removal of mature trees. While critics—including resigned members of the town's Planning Board—have pushed for a delay to allow for deeper community input, officials argue that contractual obligations and lease requirements necessitate the project's current timeline.

The renovation efforts, which carry a total estimated price tag of $13 million across three planned phases, have evolved significantly since originating as an HVAC and asbestos abatement project two years ago. Phase 2 plans were modified during a recent board session to spare three trees in the project's southeast corner, though other vegetation removal remains part of the scope to accommodate new parking and fencing. Future work in Phase 3 is expected to address outdoor recreational amenities, including a pool and pavilion, with further details pending.
