Tranquility Farms has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to prevent the foreclosure of its 151-acre site at the former Royal Virginia Golf Course in Goochland County.
A 151-acre portion of the shuttered Royal Virginia Golf Course in Goochland County is currently entangled in legal proceedings after owner Tranquility Farms LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The filing, submitted by owner Arlene Simmons on April 18, successfully halted a scheduled foreclosure auction of the site located at 3016 Royal Virginia Parkway. The property, which Simmons acquired for $750,000 in 2022, is currently subject to approximately $530,000 in debt held by local resident Timothy Maloney.
Simmons previously envisioned a $30 million project for the site dubbed the Gardens of Tranquility, which was intended to feature 180 residential units for seniors and veterans, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and hospice facilities. The site remains zoned A-1 and is currently assessed at $911,000. While a bankruptcy hearing is scheduled for August 12, the project remains stalled alongside the remainder of the original 258-acre golf course, which has been largely dormant since 2018.
