Preservationist Steven Vitale restored a collection of historic downtown Stuart properties including the Old Colorado Inn and the 2,500-square-foot Clifton Guest and Fishing Lodge.
Developer Steven Vitale has spearheaded the restoration of several iconic historical buildings in downtown Stuart, Florida, converting them into boutique vacation rentals. His portfolio, branded under the Old Colorado Inn, includes the preservation of the original 1914 hotel, the Ernie Lyons home—built in 1890 and the oldest in the city—and the relocation of the 2,500-square-foot Clifton Guest and Fishing Lodge, which was saved from demolition and moved by barge down the St. Lucie River in 2018.
Vitale, who received the 2019 Historic Preservation Award from the Martin County Historic Preservation Board, focuses on maintaining architectural character through period-appropriate renovations while incorporating modern amenities. His broader restoration work in the area previously included the redevelopment of the Post Office Arcade, which he enhanced with historic terracotta tiling and high-end finishes to accommodate retail and restaurant space.
