Governor Kathy Hochul and local officials have opened a new 6,700-square-foot sprayground and upgraded amenities at Buffalo Harbor State Park in Buffalo.
A new 6,700-square-foot sprayground has officially opened at Buffalo Harbor State Park, marking a significant addition to the Outer Harbor waterfront. The facility features 162 water elements, including spray jets and a large dumping bucket, capable of recirculating 11,000 gallons of water per minute. The project also incorporates a signature stainless-steel buffalo sculpture by artist Ai Qiu Hopen, which stands 13 feet tall and consists of 2,000 individual bird components.
Beyond the water features, the redevelopment includes a fully electric café and retail space, a new park office, and public restrooms. Further site improvements encompass an expanded, universally accessible playground, new pergola swings, dedicated food truck zones, and extensive native landscaping. These upgrades are part of a broader initiative to enhance the accessibility and appeal of Buffalo’s only state park along the Lake Erie shoreline.
