Mayor Mamdani reopens the 140,000-square-foot Orchard Beach Pavilion in the Bronx following a $114 million reconstruction project.
The landmarked Orchard Beach Pavilion in the Bronx has officially reopened after a comprehensive $114 million reconstruction project that lasted 17 years. The 140,000-square-foot facility, originally built in 1936, underwent extensive structural and architectural repairs, including the restoration of its historic columns, limestone cladding, and terrazzo flooring. The project also focused on enhancing ADA accessibility through new landside ramps and a curved, brick-clad ramp connecting the beach-level plaza to the upper balconies.
While the pavilion's ground floor and public amenities are now open, additional work is underway for food and retail concessions operated by Unwind Hospitality Group. These service areas are expected to debut later this summer, with a dedicated restaurant space projected to open in 2027. The restoration was managed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and NYC Parks, with design work performed by Marvel Architects and construction management services provided by Gilbane.
