The NJEDA awarded over $29 million in tax credits to New Jersey Symphony for their new Symphony Center at Powerhouse Arts District in Jersey City.
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has awarded a $29 million tax credit to fund the development of a permanent home for the New Jersey Symphony within the ground floor of the 151 Bay Street building. The new 550-seat theater will feature dedicated rehearsal and production areas, alongside space for educational workshops and after-school programming, with an expected capacity for over 100 public performances each year. The facility will also house 8,000 square feet of administrative offices for the orchestra.
Located in Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District, the project sits at the base of a 34-story tower developed by Toll Brothers and Sculptor Capital Management. The venue is situated near the Grove Street PATH station, serving as a new civic anchor for the region. While the symphony has been based at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark since 1997, this expansion marks a significant shift in its footprint within Hudson County.
