The North Carolina House approved $636 million in construction projects for five UNC system campuses, including new housing and dining facilities at NC State.
The North Carolina House has advanced House Bill 1123, authorizing $636 million for capital improvements across five University of North Carolina system campuses. The funding for these projects will be sourced from existing university parking and housing revenue rather than new state appropriations. The most significant initiative involves the construction of new student housing and dining facilities at NC State University to accommodate 3,000 students, which will replace aging infrastructure.
Additional projects slated under the bill include a new residence hall at UNC Chapel Hill, alongside the demolition and replacement of the existing Parker and Teague residence halls. The legislation also covers the renovation of a residence hall at UNC Charlotte and the development of a new parking structure at UNC Wilmington. The bill has passed the House and now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
