LA Launches Infrastructure Fund Targeting 29 Olympic-Linked Projects

Mayor Karen Bass launches Los Angeles' first capital infrastructure program, which includes 29 projects linked to the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

By Colin Percy · May 26, 2026

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has introduced the city’s inaugural capital infrastructure program, marking the first time in 175 years the city has established a unified roadmap for budgeting and delivering public projects. The program aims to streamline the maintenance and development of city infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, and parks. A significant portion of this initiative is designed to prepare the city for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The initial phase features 29 capital projects specifically tied to the upcoming Olympics, with improvements focused on access and roads surrounding key venues like Exposition Park, the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, and the UCLA Athletes' Village. Of these projects, 16 are slated for funding in the 2026-2027 fiscal year beginning July 1. This new capital infrastructure budget does not encompass proprietary departments with their own revenue streams, specifically the Department of Water and Power, Los Angeles World Airports, and the Port of Los Angeles.
