The Jacksonville History Center has released its 2026 endangered historic properties list, which highlights 28 sites across the county deemed at risk due to neglect or potential demolition. The annual report, timed to coincide with National Historic Preservation Month, identifies three churches, seven schools, and five commercial structures among the featured sites. Among the new additions are the 1858 St. Johns River Lighthouse in Mayport, the 1855 LaMee House on Heckscher Drive, the 1925 Oneida Bungalow Court, and a 1901 residential structure on East Adams Street.

While the list tracks preservation risks, it also catalogs successful adaptive reuse projects. Notable success stories include the former Pratt Funeral Home, which Avant Construction Group recently renovated into The Raven hotel, and the 1913 Union Terminal Warehouse, which now features 228 apartment units. Additionally, developers like JWB Real Estate Capital are currently spearheading mixed-use revivals for the historic Federal Reserve Building and the Florida Baptist Convention Building, the latter of which now includes 24 apartments alongside restaurant and retail space.
