Georgia Ports Authority Opens 300K SF Inspection Facility at Garden City Terminal

The Georgia Ports Authority has opened a new 300,000-square-foot inspection facility for U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Garden City Terminal in Savannah.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) continues to expand the infrastructure at the Garden City Terminal, the largest single-operator container terminal in North America, spanning 1,345 acres. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has recently relocated into a new 300,000-square-foot facility at the terminal, doubling the capacity available for inspections by the agency alongside the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Additionally, the GPA plans to bring 4,000 square feet of refrigerated inspection space online in June 2026.

The terminal serves as a major logistics hub with immediate access to I-16 and I-95. On-site infrastructure includes the 85-acre Mason Mega Rail facility, which operates 42 trains weekly and provides double-stack rail service via CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railroad, connecting the terminal to inland markets including Atlanta, Dallas, and Chicago.
