Florida House and Senate leaders have reached a final agreement on a state budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, totaling nearly $115 billion. The deal follows a special session and settles a long-standing impasse between the two chambers regarding spending levels, education funding, and environmental initiatives. The budget is scheduled for a formal vote this Friday before heading to Governor Ron DeSantis.
The approved plan allocates significant capital for state-wide projects, including $514 million for Everglades restoration and $425 million for the Rural and Family Lands program. Additionally, the budget authorizes Florida State University to utilize existing funds to support its $1.7 billion investment in Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare over the next 30 years. Other key provisions include $75 million for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program and $20 million for the Cancer Innovation Fund.
