Fairview Texas Temple Construction Continues With Original 120-Foot Steeple Design

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirms it will not shorten the 120-foot steeple of the Fairview Texas Temple, which is currently under construction.

By Colin Percy · May 28, 2026

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has formally rejected a request from Fairview Mayor John Hubbard to reduce the height of its temple currently under construction in the North Texas town. Church elder Steven Bangerter stated that altering the design of the 120-foot structure would be prohibitively costly and cause significant delays, noting that the existing design is necessary to accommodate the worship needs of the region's growing congregation.

The project has been the subject of years of contention regarding zoning and scale. Although a permit was approved for the 120-foot height, Fairview leadership recently asked the church to voluntarily lower the steeple to 100 feet as an act of goodwill. The church maintains that the current design fits appropriately within the community, citing a history of reaching past compromises and the religious nature of the edifice.
