The Elko County Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a private ski area at the 3,000-acre Ruby Mountain Ranch in Nevada.
The Elko County Planning Commission has granted a conditional use permit to businessman Peter Christodoulo, allowing for the development of a private ski operation at the 3,000-acre Ruby Mountain Ranch in Elko County, Nevada. The project aims to feature a recreational lodge with five rentable guest rooms and up to five triple-chairlifts, covering roughly 1,200 to 1,500 skiable acres on north-facing slopes near the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
This approval marks a significant step forward following the rejection of a larger commercial resort proposal in 2024. The current plan focuses strictly on private use for the owner's family and guests, with strict permit conditions prohibiting night skiing and capping guest stays at 28 consecutive days. The proposed base elevation is approximately 7,100 feet, with a vertical drop comparable to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.
