Duval County Public Schools plans to accelerate the $131 million rebuild of Raines High School to the 2027-28 fiscal year due to recent construction cost savings.
The Duval County school district is moving up its timeline for the reconstruction of Raines High School, with funding now slated for the 2027-28 school year. Superintendent Chris Bernier announced that consistent cost savings across the district's construction portfolio allow for the acceleration of several capital projects, including updates for Biscayne, Hendricks Avenue, and Ruth Upson elementary schools. While the district currently estimates the Raines High School rebuild at $131 million, officials noted that project details remain under consideration as the new timeline awaits formal School Board approval in June.
The district’s broader facilities strategy, bolstered by a 15-year half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2020, continues to prioritize aging infrastructure. This follows the recent $120.5 million completion of the Jean Ribault High School facility. Additionally, the district is currently in the planning phase for a replacement of Baldwin Middle-Senior High School, an effort previously estimated to exceed $140 million.
