The Community-University Health Care Center has broken ground on a $45 million expansion in Minneapolis that will double the size of its existing facility by July 2027.
The Community-University Health Care Center has commenced construction on a new, larger facility in south Minneapolis, aiming to replace an outdated building that has long struggled to meet patient demand. The $45 million project, funded by the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Foundation, will result in a building twice the size of the original clinic. The expansion includes modernized exam rooms, an increased dental clinic capacity, and an on-site pharmacy to address the needs of the center's diverse, low-income patient population.
Construction is currently underway, with completion expected by July 2027. The project is moving forward despite broader economic headwinds and concerns regarding proposed Medicaid funding cuts. The existing clinic will remain operational throughout the construction phase before the structure is eventually slated for demolition.
