The Chicago Park District completes a $2 million overhaul of the West Madison Roller Rink and Park No. 602 in West Garfield Park, featuring a new event stage and play space.
The Chicago Park District has completed a $2 million renovation of Park No. 602, located at 4008 W. Madison St. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The project adds new recreational amenities to the half-acre site, which originally opened in 2021 as a roller rink and community plaza. Key improvements include a new event stage housed under shaded pergolas, a nature-themed play area, and extensive murals celebrating local empowerment and community history.
The upgrades were funded through an equal split of $1 million from the city and $1 million from the Park District. Originally developed as a project by the Garfield Park Rite to Wellness Collaborative to revitalize a formerly vacant lot, the park is designed to encourage walkability and community engagement along the Madison Street corridor. The improved facility is scheduled to open to the public on June 19.
