California Department of Veterans Affairs completes an $86 million feasibility study for a new veterans cemetery in Anaheim, targeting a 2028-2029 completion.
The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) has finalized a comprehensive study for the proposed veterans cemetery at Gypsum Canyon in Anaheim, marking a significant step forward for the project. The estimated cost to develop the site is $86 million, with officials noting that updated, eco-friendly designs saved $45 million while increasing total burial capacity by 50%. The cemetery is planned to accommodate 30,000 placements initially, with a total potential capacity of 157,000 across eight construction phases.
The project, which is being developed in coordination with the Orange County Cemetery District, is currently in the planning and pre-construction phase. Upcoming efforts will focus on utility infrastructure, including water and power access, to prepare for site grading. Stakeholders anticipate entering Phase I construction soon, with an estimated completion target between late 2028 and mid-2029.
