Johnson & Wales University is investing $42 million to convert a 97,000-square-foot hotel into a 150-room student housing facility in Charlotte.
Johnson & Wales University has announced plans to renovate the former Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, now known as "The Maple," on its Charlotte campus into a mixed-use residence hall and student services center. The $42 million project will overhaul the 97,000-square-foot building to feature 150 rooms with a total capacity of 276 beds, alongside a new admissions welcome center and centralized administrative offices.
The renovation is expected to take approximately two years to complete and will be funded through a mix of investment reserves and philanthropic contributions. Charlotte-based 3Ten Construction is serving as the general contractor for the project, while Little Diversified Architectural Consulting is providing architectural services. Both firms have already begun early-phase work on the site.
