Development of the $11 million Brooklyn Skate Garden in Prospect Heights moves to procurement after receiving local approvals for a scaled-back 19,500-square-foot design.
The $11 million Brooklyn Skate Garden, situated in Brooklyn’s Mount Prospect Park, is advancing toward procurement following recent approvals from New York City’s Public Design Commission and Brooklyn Community Board 8. The project, which was downsized from an initial 40,000 square feet to 19,500 square feet following local community feedback, is currently slated to break ground in spring 2027 with an anticipated completion in 2028.
Developed in partnership with The Skatepark Project and the Pablo Ramirez Foundation, the facility is designed to accommodate skateboarding, BMX biking, and roller skating. The site plan includes significant park improvements such as the planting of 19 new trees, native landscaping, enhanced security lighting, and a green infrastructure system for drainage. The project is one of four public skatepark initiatives spearheaded by professional skateboarder Tony Hawk to provide improved recreational facilities across New York City's five boroughs.
